About the Journal

The Indonesian Art and Justice Review (IAJR) is a peer-reviewed journal that explores the dynamic relationship between art, law, and social justice, focusing specifically on the Indonesian context. Art has long been a powerful vehicle for social change, reflecting societal issues and acting as a catalyst for dialogue, resistance, and transformation. This journal seeks to investigate how art intersects with justice, examining how creative expression can promote, challenge, and reshape legal, social, and cultural narratives in Indonesia.

The journal offers a platform for scholarly inquiry into how art, in all its forms—visual arts, performing arts, literature, and digital media—can serve as a tool for social justice. IAJR explores the legal dimensions of artistic expression, including the protection of freedom of speech, intellectual property, and the role of art in advocating for human rights, equality, and justice. It also delves into how art can illuminate issues of injustice, including inequality, discrimination, human rights violations, and environmental degradation, while offering a medium for healing, activism, and empowerment.

IAJR seeks to engage with interdisciplinary perspectives, bridging art, law, philosophy, sociology, and political science. It aims to explore both the theoretical and practical dimensions of how art contributes to social justice, offering insights into how the law can support or restrict artistic freedom and how art itself can influence legal and policy reforms.
