Palestine Issues on Indonesian Society is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal dedicated to the scholarly study of Palestine-related issues and their implications for Indonesian society. The journal is committed to maintaining high standards of academic quality, research integrity, editorial independence, transparency, and responsible scholarly communication.

The journal follows internationally recognized principles of scholarly publishing and research integrity, including relevant recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and other applicable international standards.

1. Journal Type

Palestine Issues on Indonesian Society is an international, interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal.

The journal publishes scholarly contributions that critically examine Palestine-related issues and their political, social, cultural, religious, legal, humanitarian, economic, educational, and intellectual dimensions, particularly in relation to Indonesian society.

The journal encourages contributions from scholars and researchers from Indonesia and other countries and promotes interdisciplinary and comparative perspectives.

2. Publication Model

The journal operates under an open-access publishing model. All published articles are made freely available to readers without subscription or access fees, subject to the journal's applicable copyright and licensing conditions.

The journal is committed to maximizing the accessibility and dissemination of scholarly research while maintaining rigorous standards of peer review and editorial quality.

3. Publication Frequency

The journal is published four times a year (quarterly), with regular issues released in:

  • February

  • May

  • August

  • November

In addition to the regular quarterly issues, the journal may publish Special Issues devoted to specific themes, emerging research topics, scholarly events, or timely developments relevant to the journal's focus and scope.

Special Issues are subject to the same standards of editorial assessment, peer review, research integrity, and publication ethics as regular issues.

4. Types of Articles

The journal accepts the following types of scholarly contributions:

4.1 Original Research Article

Original Research Articles present original empirical or theoretical research that makes a substantive contribution to knowledge. Manuscripts should provide a clear research problem, appropriate theoretical or conceptual framework, rigorous methodology, analysis, discussion, and conclusions.

4.2 Review Article

Review Articles provide a systematic, critical, and comprehensive synthesis of existing scholarly literature on a significant topic within the journal's scope.

Where appropriate, systematic reviews should clearly explain the literature-search strategy, inclusion and exclusion criteria, analytical approach, and limitations.

4.3 Conceptual or Theoretical Article

Conceptual or Theoretical Articles develop, critically examine, or propose theoretical or conceptual perspectives relevant to Palestine-related issues and Indonesian society.

Such manuscripts should demonstrate substantial engagement with existing scholarship and provide a clear theoretical contribution.

4.4 Policy Analysis

Policy Analysis articles provide rigorous, evidence-based examination of policies, diplomatic developments, humanitarian issues, legal frameworks, social policies, or other public-policy questions relevant to the journal's scope.

Policy-oriented manuscripts must maintain academic rigor and should not function primarily as political advocacy or opinion pieces.

4.5 Comparative and Interdisciplinary Research

The journal welcomes Comparative and Interdisciplinary Research that connects Palestine-related issues with broader developments in Indonesian society or compares Indonesian experiences with other national, regional, or international contexts.

5. Articles Not Normally Considered

The journal does not normally consider:

  • purely opinion-based articles without scholarly analysis;

  • political statements or advocacy materials presented as academic research;

  • manuscripts outside the journal's focus and scope;

  • manuscripts lacking sufficient methodological or theoretical foundation;

  • duplicate or substantially redundant publications;

  • manuscripts containing plagiarism or other forms of academic misconduct;

  • manuscripts simultaneously submitted to another journal; or

  • promotional or commercial content.

Editorial decisions concerning suitability remain at the discretion of the Editorial Board.

6. Peer Review Policy

All research manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening are normally subjected to double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise.

The peer review process evaluates the manuscript's:

  • originality;

  • academic significance;

  • theoretical or conceptual contribution;

  • methodological rigor;

  • quality of analysis;

  • use of evidence and scholarly literature;

  • clarity and coherence; and

  • relevance to the journal's focus and scope.

The final decision to accept, revise, or reject a manuscript rests with the Editor-in-Chief or an authorized member of the Editorial Board.

Detailed procedures are provided in the journal's Peer Review Policy.

7. Publication Ethics

The journal is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and research integrity.

The journal does not tolerate:

  • plagiarism;

  • fabrication or falsification of data;

  • duplicate or redundant publication;

  • inappropriate authorship;

  • citation manipulation;

  • peer-review manipulation;

  • undisclosed conflicts of interest;

  • unethical research practices; or

  • other forms of academic and publication misconduct.

The journal's publication-ethics procedures are guided by internationally recognized principles, including relevant COPE recommendations.

8. Plagiarism Prevention

All manuscripts may undergo plagiarism and text-similarity screening during the editorial process.

Similarity reports are used as a screening and assessment tool rather than as an automatic determination of plagiarism. The Editorial Board considers the nature, location, extent, and context of overlapping material before making an editorial decision.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all ideas, text, data, figures, tables, and other intellectual contributions obtained from other sources are appropriately acknowledged and cited.

9. Authorship and Contributorship

Authorship must reflect substantial intellectual or scholarly contributions to the research and manuscript.

All authors must:

  • make a substantial contribution to the work;

  • participate in drafting or critically revising the manuscript;

  • approve the final version; and

  • accept responsibility for the integrity of the work.

The journal does not permit guest, honorary, gift, or ghost authorship.

Changes to authorship after submission require appropriate justification and approval from all affected authors and the Editorial Office.

10. Conflict of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest that could affect the research, review, or editorial decision.

Editors and reviewers with relevant conflicts of interest should not participate in the evaluation of the manuscript.

11. Research Ethics

Research involving human participants, personal data, interviews, surveys, or other sensitive information must comply with applicable ethical and legal standards.

Where required, authors must obtain approval from an appropriate research ethics committee or institutional review board and obtain informed consent from participants.

The journal expects particular care in research involving conflict, displacement, humanitarian crises, vulnerable populations, politically sensitive subjects, or personally identifiable information.

12. Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI

Authors may use AI-assisted tools where appropriate, but remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical compliance of their manuscripts.

AI systems cannot be listed as authors.

The use of generative AI must not result in fabricated data, false references, plagiarism, manipulated evidence, or misleading scholarly claims.

Substantive use of generative AI in manuscript preparation should be disclosed in accordance with the journal's applicable AI policy and international publishing standards.

Editors and reviewers must preserve manuscript confidentiality and should not submit unpublished manuscript content to external AI systems where doing so would compromise confidentiality or intellectual property.

13. Corrections and Retractions

The journal is committed to maintaining the integrity of the published scholarly record.

When significant errors or ethical problems are identified after publication, the journal may publish:

  • Correction;

  • Expression of Concern; or

  • Retraction,

depending on the nature and seriousness of the issue.

Corrections and retractions will be clearly identified and linked to the original publication whenever technically possible.

14. Complaints and Appeals

The journal provides mechanisms for authors and other stakeholders to raise legitimate concerns concerning editorial procedures, peer review, publication ethics, authorship, conflicts of interest, or published content.

Complaints and appeals should be submitted with sufficient evidence or explanation to enable the Editorial Board to assess the matter fairly.

Editorial decisions will not normally be overturned solely because an author disagrees with the academic judgment of a reviewer.

15. Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions are made independently on the basis of academic quality, originality, methodological rigor, relevance, ethical compliance, and scholarly contribution.

The journal does not discriminate on the basis of nationality, ethnicity, religion, gender, institutional affiliation, political position, or other personal characteristics.

Given the politically, historically, and religiously sensitive nature of Palestine-related scholarship, the journal particularly emphasizes that agreement or disagreement with a particular political, religious, ideological, or national position shall not, by itself, determine the publication decision.

16. Language and International Contribution

The journal welcomes scholarly contributions from researchers internationally.

Manuscripts should be written in clear academic English or another language officially accepted by the journal. Authors are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts meet appropriate standards of academic language and presentation.

The Editorial Board may encourage international and interdisciplinary contributions to broaden scholarly dialogue and strengthen the journal's global academic relevance.

17. Special Issues

The journal may publish Special Issues addressing specific themes that fall within its focus and scope.

Special Issues may be proposed by members of the Editorial Board, guest editors, research groups, academic institutions, or other qualified scholars, subject to editorial approval.

All manuscripts submitted to a Special Issue must undergo the journal's standard editorial and peer review procedures. Guest editors must comply with the journal's publication ethics, conflict-of-interest, confidentiality, and editorial-independence requirements.

Publication in a Special Issue does not guarantee acceptance.

18. Archiving and Preservation

The journal is committed to preserving access to its published scholarly content.

Appropriate digital archiving and preservation mechanisms should be maintained to ensure that published articles remain accessible and part of the permanent scholarly record, subject to applicable technical and institutional arrangements.

19. Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain copyright of their work subject to the journal's applicable publication agreement and licensing policy.

The journal will clearly state the applicable copyright, licensing, and reuse conditions for published articles.

Where an open-access Creative Commons license is adopted, the specific license will be clearly displayed on the article and journal website.

20. Data and Research Transparency

Authors are encouraged to provide sufficient methodological information and, where ethically and legally appropriate, supporting research materials, datasets, instruments, or other relevant information that may facilitate transparency and reproducibility.

Data sharing must respect participant confidentiality, privacy, intellectual property, legal requirements, and research ethics.

21. Advertising and Commercial Influence

The journal does not allow advertising, sponsorship, or other commercial interests to improperly influence editorial decisions.

Where advertising or sponsorship is accepted, it must be clearly separated from editorial content and must not determine the acceptance, rejection, or treatment of manuscripts.

22. Editorial Responsibility for the Scholarly Record

The Editorial Board is responsible for taking reasonable steps to preserve the accuracy and integrity of the journal's scholarly record.

When credible evidence of significant error, misconduct, or ethical violation emerges, the journal will assess the matter and take proportionate action in accordance with recognized publication-ethics principles.

23. Policy Review

The journal's policies are reviewed periodically by the Editorial Board to ensure continued alignment with developments in international scholarly publishing, research integrity, open-access practices, and recommendations from organizations such as COPE, DOAJ, and other recognized international standards-setting bodies.

The journal may revise its policies when necessary to maintain academic quality, transparency, ethical integrity, and international publishing standards.
