Open Access Policy

Palestine Issues on Indonesian Society is a fully open-access, peer-reviewed academic journal. The journal provides immediate and unrestricted online access to all published scholarly articles, supporting the broad dissemination, visibility, and accessibility of academic knowledge.

The journal is committed to the principles of open and equitable scholarly communication and follows internationally recognized open-access practices, including the principles of the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) and relevant standards and recommendations of the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Immediate and Free Access

All articles published by Palestine Issues on Indonesian Society are made freely available online immediately upon publication.

Readers do not need to register, subscribe, or pay a fee to access, read, download, search, or link to the full text of published articles.

There is no embargo period for published articles.

The journal believes that unrestricted access to scholarly research contributes to the advancement of knowledge and facilitates academic, educational, professional, and public engagement with research findings.

2. Reader Rights

Readers are permitted to:

  • access published articles without charge;

  • read the full text of articles online;

  • download articles for personal, educational, research, and scholarly purposes;

  • print copies for legitimate non-commercial use;

  • share links to published articles; and

  • cite and reference published works in accordance with normal academic practice.

Any further reuse of published material is subject to the copyright and licensing terms specified for each article.

3. Copyright and Licensing

The journal supports author rights and transparent licensing practices.

Authors retain copyright of their work, subject to the terms of the applicable publication agreement.

Unless otherwise stated on an individual article, published works are distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) License.

Under the CC BY 4.0 license, users may share and adapt the published material for any purpose, including commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original author(s), a link to the license is provided, and any changes made to the original material are indicated.

The applicable license will be clearly displayed on each published article and its corresponding metadata.

4. Author Rights

Authors retain important rights over their scholarly work.

Subject to the applicable licensing and publication agreement, authors may:

  • retain copyright;

  • share the published version of their article;

  • deposit the article in institutional or subject repositories;

  • use the work for teaching and educational purposes;

  • include the work in a thesis or dissertation;

  • reuse portions of the work in subsequent scholarly publications with appropriate acknowledgment; and

  • distribute links to the officially published version.

Authors should ensure that any reuse of third-party copyrighted material contained in their article complies with the rights and permissions applicable to that material.

5. Article Processing Charges

The journal's open-access model is intended to ensure that published research is freely available to readers.

The journal will clearly state whether Article Processing Charges (APCs) or any other publication fees apply.

Where no APC is charged, the journal will explicitly state:

The journal does not charge authors any Article Processing Charges (APCs) or submission fees for manuscripts submitted or accepted for publication.

Authors will not be required to pay fees in order to submit, undergo peer review, or publish an article unless such charges are explicitly stated in the journal's current fee policy.

Editorial decisions are independent of authors' ability or inability to pay publication-related fees.

6. No Subscription or Access Fees

The journal does not operate on a subscription-based access model.

Readers are not required to purchase individual articles, subscribe to the journal, or pay access fees to read or download published content.

The journal's open-access model is designed to remove financial barriers to accessing scholarly research.

7. Open Access and Academic Integrity

Open access does not reduce the journal's standards for academic quality or research integrity.

All manuscripts remain subject to the journal's established editorial screening and peer review procedures.

Open-access articles are evaluated according to the same standards of:

  • originality;

  • scholarly significance;

  • methodological rigor;

  • ethical research practice;

  • academic integrity; and

  • relevance to the journal's focus and scope.

8. Reuse and Attribution

Users may reuse published content in accordance with the license attached to the article.

When reusing or adapting material, users must provide appropriate attribution, including:

  • the name(s) of the author(s);

  • the title of the article;

  • the journal title;

  • the publication information;

  • the DOI or persistent identifier, where available;

  • a link to the original publication; and

  • a link to the applicable Creative Commons license.

Any modifications to the original work should be clearly indicated.

9. Third-Party Material

Some articles may contain materials, including photographs, figures, tables, datasets, or other content, that are owned by third parties and are not necessarily covered by the article's Creative Commons license.

Where applicable, third-party materials will be identified through appropriate credit lines or attribution statements.

Users wishing to reuse third-party material are responsible for determining whether additional permission is required from the respective copyright holder.

10. Repository and Self-Archiving

The journal supports the preservation and dissemination of scholarly publications through appropriate institutional, subject-based, and other recognized repositories.

Authors may deposit the published version of their articles in repositories in accordance with the applicable copyright and licensing terms.

The journal encourages authors and institutions to make research outputs discoverable and accessible through reliable scholarly infrastructure.

11. Digital Preservation

The journal is committed to maintaining long-term access to its published scholarly content.

The Editorial Board and Publisher will seek to implement appropriate digital preservation and archiving arrangements to protect the continuity and integrity of the journal's scholarly record.

Where applicable, the journal may participate in recognized digital preservation, repository, or archiving services.

12. Open Access to Metadata

Bibliographic metadata associated with published articles should be made openly accessible to facilitate indexing, discovery, interoperability, and scholarly communication.

The journal supports the dissemination of article metadata through appropriate scholarly databases, repositories, discovery services, and indexing systems.

13. Equitable Access

The journal is committed to promoting equitable access to scholarly knowledge.

Open access is intended to reduce barriers for researchers, students, educators, practitioners, policymakers, and members of the public, particularly those who may not have access to institutional journal subscriptions.

The journal does not discriminate against readers or authors based on nationality, institutional affiliation, geographic location, economic status, religion, gender, political position, or other personal characteristics.

14. Special Issues

Articles published as part of Special Issues are subject to the same open-access principles as articles published in regular issues.

Unless otherwise specified, Special Issue articles are freely accessible immediately upon publication and are subject to the same copyright, licensing, peer review, and publication-ethics policies as regular articles.

15. Transparency of Open-Access Conditions

The journal is committed to clearly communicating its open-access conditions to authors and readers.

Information concerning:

  • access conditions;

  • copyright;

  • licensing;

  • author rights;

  • publication fees;

  • repository and archiving practices; and

  • applicable reuse conditions

will be publicly available on the journal website.

No hidden access charges or undisclosed publication fees will be imposed.

16. Commitment to Open Scholarly Communication

Palestine Issues on Indonesian Society considers open access an important component of responsible scholarly publishing.

The journal seeks to ensure that high-quality research concerning Palestine-related issues and Indonesian society can be accessed, read, discussed, cited, and reused by the international academic community without unnecessary financial or technical barriers.

The journal may periodically review and update this policy to ensure continued alignment with developments in open-access publishing, BOAI principles, DOAJ standards, COPE recommendations, Creative Commons licensing practices, and other recognized international standards of scholarly communication.
