Author Guidelines

Indonesian Discourse on Communication, Democracy, and Political Movements (e-ISSN: XXXX-XXXX) welcomes original scholarly manuscripts that contribute to the study of communication, democracy, political movements, and related interdisciplinary fields.

The journal is published by COLLEGIUM JUSTICIA INDONESIA and follows a rigorous editorial and peer-review process. Authors are expected to comply with the journal's publication ethics, plagiarism prevention, research ethics, copyright, open-access, and AI-use policies before submitting a manuscript.

1. Types of Manuscripts

The journal considers the following types of scholarly contributions:

  • Original Research Articles — empirical, qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods, or other rigorous original research.
  • Review Articles — systematic, scoping, integrative, critical, or other rigorous scholarly reviews.
  • Conceptual or Theoretical Articles — substantial theoretical, conceptual, or methodological contributions.
  • Policy, Perspective, or Commentary Articles — academically grounded analysis of significant contemporary issues.
  • Book Reviews — critical reviews of relevant academic books.
  • Editorials — invited or editorial contributions addressing significant scholarly issues.
  • Special Issue Articles — manuscripts submitted to approved thematic Special Issues.

The Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to determine the appropriate publication category for an accepted manuscript.

2. Originality and Exclusivity

Submitted manuscripts must be original works and must not have been previously published in substantially similar form.

A manuscript must not be simultaneously submitted to another journal while it is under consideration by Indonesian Discourse on Communication, Democracy, and Political Movements.

Authors must disclose any previous publication, conference paper, preprint, thesis, dissertation, working paper, or other publicly available material that substantially overlaps with the submitted manuscript.

The journal may use plagiarism-detection and similarity-screening tools. Suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, redundant publication, or other forms of publication misconduct will be handled in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics and Plagiarism Prevention policies.

3. Language

Manuscripts should be written in clear and academically appropriate English.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript has appropriate grammar, spelling, terminology, clarity, and academic style.

The editorial team may request language revision when substantial language problems interfere with the scholarly assessment of the manuscript.

4. Manuscript Structure

For Original Research Articles, authors are generally expected to organize manuscripts using the following structure:

  1. Title
  2. Author Information
  3. Abstract
  4. Keywords
  5. Introduction
  6. Literature Review / Theoretical Framework
  7. Methods
  8. Results / Findings
  9. Discussion
  10. Conclusion
  11. Acknowledgments, if applicable
  12. Funding Statement, if applicable
  13. Conflict of Interest Statement
  14. Data Availability Statement, where applicable
  15. AI Use Disclosure, where applicable
  16. References

The exact structure may vary according to the type and methodology of the manuscript.

5. Title

The title should be concise, informative, specific, and accurately reflect the content of the manuscript.

Authors should avoid unnecessary abbreviations, excessive jargon, rhetorical claims, and overly broad titles.

The title should normally not exceed 20 words, unless a longer title is necessary to accurately describe the research.

6. Author Information

For each author, provide:

  • full name;
  • institutional affiliation;
  • department or program, where applicable;
  • city and country;
  • ORCID iD, where available; and
  • corresponding author's email address.

All individuals listed as authors must have made substantial contributions to the work and must approve the final manuscript.

The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the journal and for coordinating responses among all authors.

7. Abstract

The abstract should provide a concise summary of the manuscript and should normally be 150–250 words.

For Original Research Articles, the abstract should preferably communicate:

  • Background/Introduction
  • Objective/Purpose
  • Methods
  • Results/Findings
  • Conclusion/Implications

The abstract should be understandable without requiring readers to consult the main text.

References and unnecessary abbreviations should generally not be included in the abstract.

8. Keywords

Authors should provide 3–6 keywords or key phrases that accurately represent the main concepts, topics, methods, or findings of the manuscript.

Keywords should be specific and useful for indexing and discoverability.

9. Main Text

The manuscript should present a clear and logically organized scholarly argument.

Authors should ensure that:

  • research questions or objectives are clearly stated;
  • relevant literature is appropriately reviewed;
  • theoretical or conceptual frameworks are adequately explained;
  • research methods are sufficiently described;
  • findings are presented accurately;
  • interpretations are supported by evidence;
  • limitations are acknowledged where appropriate; and
  • conclusions correspond to the research objectives and findings.

10. Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively and referred to clearly in the manuscript.

Each table and figure should have an informative title or caption.

Authors must ensure that all tables, figures, photographs, diagrams, and other visual materials are original or used with appropriate permission and attribution.

Figures should be of sufficient quality for publication.

Authors should avoid unnecessarily duplicating information between the main text, tables, and figures.

11. References and Citations

Authors must ensure that all sources cited in the manuscript are accurately represented in the reference list.

Every in-text citation should correspond to an entry in the reference list, and every reference listed should be cited in the manuscript where appropriate.

Authors should use a consistent citation and reference style as specified in the journal's manuscript template.

Authors are encouraged to cite relevant recent and primary scholarly sources and to provide DOI information where available.

Citation manipulation, excessive self-citation, coercive citation, and irrelevant citation practices are prohibited.

12. Research Ethics

Manuscripts reporting research involving human participants, personal data, interviews, surveys, or other ethically sensitive activities must comply with applicable ethical requirements.

Where required, authors should provide information concerning:

  • ethical approval;
  • name of the approving ethics committee or institution;
  • approval or protocol number, where applicable; and
  • informed consent procedures.

Authors must protect participants' privacy and confidentiality and must not disclose personally identifiable information without appropriate consent or legal justification.

13. Data Availability

Authors are encouraged to make research data, materials, analytical procedures, instruments, or other supporting information available where ethically and legally permissible.

A Data Availability Statement should be included where applicable.

If data cannot be shared because of privacy, confidentiality, legal, ethical, proprietary, or other restrictions, authors should explain the reason appropriately.

14. Funding Statement

Authors should disclose all sources of financial support for the research and publication.

The funding statement should identify the funding organization and, where applicable, the grant or project number.

If the research received no specific funding, authors may state:

“This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.”

15. Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest that could influence the research or its interpretation.

If there are no conflicts of interest, authors should provide an appropriate statement such as:

“The authors declare that they have no known competing financial or non-financial interests that could have influenced the work reported in this article.”

16. Acknowledgments

Individuals or organizations that contributed to the research but do not qualify for authorship may be acknowledged.

Authors should obtain permission from individuals before including their names in the Acknowledgments section where appropriate.

17. Artificial Intelligence and AI-Assisted Technologies

The journal permits responsible use of AI-assisted tools in accordance with its AI Policy.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and accountability of the submitted manuscript.

AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.

Routine use of AI for spelling, grammar, formatting, or language improvement does not normally require detailed disclosure. Substantive use of generative AI in developing manuscript content, analysis, or other scholarly material should be disclosed in accordance with the journal's AI policy.

Authors must verify AI-assisted content, including factual claims, citations, references, quotations, data, and interpretations.

18. Supplementary Materials

Authors may submit supplementary materials when these materials provide useful supporting information that cannot appropriately be included in the main article.

Supplementary materials must be relevant, accurate, and appropriately referenced in the main manuscript.

The journal may determine whether supplementary materials are suitable for publication.

19. Manuscript Formatting

Authors should prepare manuscripts using the journal's official manuscript template, where available.

The manuscript should:

  • use a consistent font and formatting style;
  • contain clearly identified headings and subheadings;
  • use consistent numbering where appropriate;
  • include page numbers where required by the submission system;
  • use SI units where applicable;
  • define abbreviations at first use; and
  • ensure that tables, figures, citations, and references are correctly formatted.

Authors should consult the journal's current manuscript template for detailed formatting requirements.

20. Submission Procedure

Manuscripts should be submitted through the journal's official online submission system.

The corresponding author must ensure that all authors have approved the submitted version.

The submission should include all required files and declarations.

Authors should not submit substantially identical manuscripts to multiple journals simultaneously.

21. Peer Review and Editorial Process

Submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial assessment.

The editorial team evaluates the manuscript for:

  • relevance to the journal's scope;
  • originality and scholarly contribution;
  • basic methodological and academic quality;
  • plagiarism or inappropriate text reuse;
  • ethical compliance; and
  • conformity with the journal's submission requirements.

Manuscripts that pass the initial assessment may be sent for peer review.

The final editorial decision may be:

  • Accept;
  • Minor Revision;
  • Major Revision; or
  • Reject.

The Editor-in-Chief retains final responsibility for editorial decisions.

22. Publication Charges

The journal operates under an open-access publishing model.

There is no submission fee.

For manuscripts that receive final acceptance, the journal charges an Article Processing Charge (APC) of IDR 5,000,000 (five million Indonesian rupiah) per accepted article.

The APC is payable only after acceptance and does not influence editorial or peer-review decisions.

Authors who experience genuine financial difficulties may apply for a full or partial APC waiver or reduction in accordance with the journal's APC Policy.

23. Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain full copyright of their published articles.

The journal does not require authors to transfer copyright to the journal or publisher.

Published articles are made immediately available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

Authors and third parties may reuse, share, adapt, and redistribute the published work in accordance with the CC BY 4.0 license, provided that appropriate attribution is given and any changes are indicated.

24. Archiving and Self-Deposit

Authors may deposit the published Version of Record in institutional repositories, subject repositories, personal or institutional websites, and other appropriate scholarly repositories.

The journal applies a zero-embargo self-archiving policy.

Authors may make their published article publicly available immediately after publication, subject to the CC BY 4.0 license and applicable third-party rights.

25. Post-Publication Corrections and Retractions

Authors have a responsibility to notify the journal promptly if they discover a significant error in their published article.

The journal may issue a correction, Expression of Concern, or retraction when necessary to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.

Post-publication actions are handled in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics and applicable international publication-ethics principles.

Submission Preparation Checklist

Before submitting a manuscript, authors should ensure that all of the following requirements have been met.

Manuscript

  • The manuscript falls within the scope of Indonesian Discourse on Communication, Democracy, and Political Movements.
  • The manuscript is original and has not been published elsewhere.
  • The manuscript is not simultaneously under consideration by another journal.
  • The manuscript follows the journal's required structure and formatting.
  • The manuscript has been carefully checked for grammar, spelling, clarity, and consistency.
  • The title accurately reflects the content of the manuscript.
  • The abstract meets the journal's requirements.
  • 3–6 appropriate keywords have been provided.
  • All tables and figures are numbered, titled, cited, and properly prepared.
  • All sources cited in the manuscript appear in the reference list.
  • All references in the reference list are cited appropriately in the manuscript.
  • DOI information has been included where available.

Research Ethics and Integrity

  • Ethical approval has been obtained where required.
  • Informed consent has been obtained where required.
  • Participant privacy and confidentiality have been protected.
  • The manuscript does not contain plagiarism or inappropriate text reuse.
  • Any substantial overlap with the authors' previous publications has been disclosed.
  • All research data and findings are reported accurately.
  • Any relevant research limitations have been appropriately acknowledged.

Authorship and Declarations

  • All listed authors meet the journal's authorship requirements.
  • All authors have approved the final manuscript.
  • The corresponding author has obtained the agreement of all co-authors for submission.
  • Any change in authorship has been properly justified and approved.
  • Funding information has been provided where applicable.
  • A Conflict of Interest Statement has been included.
  • A Data Availability Statement has been included where applicable.
  • Acknowledgments have been provided where appropriate.

AI-Assisted Technologies

  • Any substantive use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies has been disclosed where required.
  • AI tools have not been listed as authors or co-authors.
  • AI-assisted content has been independently checked and verified.
  • AI-generated or AI-assisted references and citations have been verified for accuracy.
  • AI has not been used to fabricate or manipulate research data, evidence, results, or images.

Copyright and Licensing

  • The authors have the necessary rights to publish all submitted material.
  • Permission has been obtained for copyrighted third-party material where required.
  • The authors understand that the published article will be distributed under CC BY 4.0.
  • The authors understand that they retain copyright of the published work.

Submission

  • The manuscript file is complete and ready for peer review.
  • All required supplementary files have been uploaded.
  • Author information has been entered accurately in the submission system.
  • ORCID iDs have been provided where available.
  • The manuscript has been submitted through the journal's official submission system.
  • The authors understand that the APC is IDR 5,000,000 per accepted article.
  • The authors understand that no submission fee is charged.

By submitting a manuscript, the authors confirm that the information provided is accurate and that they agree to comply with the journal's editorial, ethical, copyright, open-access, and publication policies.
