Open Access Policy

The Indonesian Journal of Defence, Security and Strategic Studies operates under a Open Access model. The journal provides immediate, free, and unrestricted online access to all published articles upon publication.

The journal supports broad and equitable dissemination of scholarly research while maintaining rigorous editorial standards, double-anonymous peer review, and publication ethics.

1. Immediate Open Access

All articles published by the journal are made freely and immediately accessible online upon publication through the journal's official website and publishing platform.

Readers are not required to pay subscription fees, article access fees, or registration fees to read, download, or access published articles.

The journal does not impose an embargo period on published articles.

2. Article Processing Charge

To support the editorial, peer review, production, hosting, preservation, and administrative costs associated with scholarly publishing, the journal charges an Article Processing Charge (APC) of IDR 5,000,000 (five million Indonesian rupiah) per accepted article.

The APC is charged only after a manuscript has successfully completed the editorial and peer review process and has received an acceptance decision.

Payment of an APC does not influence editorial decisions, peer review, acceptance, or the academic evaluation of a manuscript.

There is no submission fee for manuscript submission unless otherwise stated by the journal.

3. APC Waivers and Discounts

The journal may consider partial or full APC waivers or discounts in exceptional circumstances, particularly where authors demonstrate genuine financial constraints or where funding limitations would otherwise prevent publication.

Requests for an APC waiver or discount should be submitted to the Editorial Office before or during the submission process and will be considered separately from editorial and peer review decisions.

The availability of a waiver or discount does not affect the scholarly evaluation of a manuscript.

4. Copyright

Copyright of published articles remains with the authors.

By submitting a manuscript and accepting publication, authors grant the journal the necessary non-exclusive rights to publish, distribute, archive, and make the article publicly available as the official version of record.

Authors retain the right to reuse and share their work in accordance with the applicable Creative Commons licence and copyright law.

5. Creative Commons Licence

All articles published by the journal are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence, unless otherwise stated.

Under the CC BY 4.0 licence, users may:

  • share, copy, and redistribute the article in any medium or format;

  • adapt, remix, transform, and build upon the material; and

  • use the material for commercial or non-commercial purposes,

provided that appropriate credit is given to the original author(s), the source is acknowledged, a link to the licence is provided, and any modifications are clearly indicated.

The licence does not imply endorsement by the author(s) or the journal of any subsequent adaptation or reuse.

6. Author Rights

Authors retain copyright and may reuse their published articles in accordance with the CC BY 4.0 licence.

Authors may:

  • share the published version through personal websites and institutional repositories;

  • deposit the published article in appropriate subject or institutional repositories;

  • distribute the article to colleagues and academic networks;

  • use the article for teaching and educational purposes;

  • include the article in a thesis, dissertation, book, or other scholarly work;

  • reuse portions of the article in subsequent scholarly publications; and

  • otherwise reuse or adapt the work in accordance with the CC BY 4.0 licence.

The original publication should be appropriately acknowledged in all cases of reuse.

7. Reader Rights and Reuse

Readers and third parties may access, download, copy, distribute, text- and data-mine, quote, adapt, and otherwise reuse published articles subject to the terms of the CC BY 4.0 licence.

Appropriate attribution should normally include the author(s), article title, journal title, publication details, DOI where available, licence information, and an indication of whether changes were made.

8. Repository and Self-Archiving

Authors are permitted to deposit the published version of record in institutional, subject-based, national, or other appropriate repositories without an embargo period.

Authors are encouraged to provide the DOI and a link to the official journal version when depositing or sharing their articles.

9. No Subscription Barrier

The journal does not operate a subscription-based access model.

All published articles remain freely available to readers regardless of institutional affiliation, geographical location, or ability to pay.

The APC paid by authors supports the publication process and does not restrict subsequent reader access to the published article.

10. Editorial Independence

The payment or non-payment of an APC must not influence editorial or peer review decisions.

Manuscripts are evaluated solely on the basis of their academic quality, originality, relevance, methodological rigour, ethical compliance, and contribution to the field.

Editors, reviewers, and authors must not engage in practices that create a direct relationship between payment and editorial acceptance.

11. Third-Party Material

Articles published under CC BY 4.0 may contain material owned by third parties that is not covered by the article's Creative Commons licence.

Where applicable, third-party material will be identified through an appropriate credit line or rights statement.

Users wishing to reuse third-party material are responsible for determining whether additional permission is required and, where necessary, obtaining permission from the relevant rights holder.

12. Digital Preservation and Long-Term Access

The journal is committed to preserving its published content and maintaining long-term access to the scholarly record.

The journal will implement appropriate digital archiving and preservation practices and may participate in recognized preservation services or repositories where appropriate.

13. Transparency of Publication Charges

The APC and any other publication-related charges are publicly stated on the journal website and are communicated to authors before publication.

No undisclosed publication charges will be imposed on authors.

Any changes to the APC or publication fee structure will be clearly announced and will apply prospectively in accordance with the journal's stated policy.

14. Open Access Commitment

The Indonesian Journal of Defence, Security and Strategic Studies is committed to providing immediate and unrestricted access to scholarly research while maintaining a sustainable and transparent publishing model.

The journal's Gold Open Access model combines:

  • free and immediate access for readers;

  • author copyright retention;

  • publication under the CC BY 4.0 licence;

  • transparent article processing charges;

  • rigorous double-anonymous peer review; and
