Open Access Policy

Contemporary Issues on Indonesian Human Rights Law and Policy is committed to providing immediate and unrestricted open access to all of its published scholarly content. The journal believes that making research freely available to the public supports the advancement of knowledge, promotes scholarly communication, and enhances the accessibility and impact of research on human rights law and policy.

All published articles are freely accessible online without subscription, registration, or other access barriers.

1. Immediate Open Access

All articles published by the journal are made available online immediately upon publication.

Readers may access, read, download, search, and use the published content without requiring a subscription or institutional login, subject to the terms of the applicable Creative Commons license.

The journal does not impose an embargo period on access to published articles.

2. Reader Rights

Subject to the applicable Creative Commons license, readers may:

Read and access published articles free of charge;
Download and save articles for personal or scholarly use;
Print copies for legitimate academic and educational purposes;
Share links to published articles;
Cite and reference published works;
Use published material in teaching and research; and
Reuse content in accordance with the terms of the applicable license.

Users must provide appropriate attribution to the original authors and source and must comply with the conditions of the applicable Creative Commons license.

3. Author Rights

The journal supports authors' rights to retain appropriate rights in their scholarly work.

Authors are permitted to share and disseminate their published work in accordance with the journal's copyright and licensing terms, including through:

Institutional repositories;
Subject repositories;
Personal academic websites;
Research profiles;
Academic networks; and
Other legitimate scholarly platforms.

Any reuse or redistribution must comply with the applicable Creative Commons license and include appropriate attribution.

The specific copyright ownership and licensing arrangements are stated clearly in the journal's Copyright and Licensing Policy and in each published article.

4. Creative Commons Licensing

The journal publishes articles under a Creative Commons license, allowing readers and other users to reuse published content under clearly defined conditions.

Unless otherwise stated for a particular article, the journal recommends the use of:

Under the CC BY 4.0 license, users may share and adapt the material, including for commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original author(s), a link to the license is provided, and any changes are indicated.

The journal may adopt another Creative Commons license where required by a particular publishing arrangement, funder requirement, or editorial policy. The applicable license will always be clearly identified on the published article.

5. Copyright

Unless otherwise specified in the journal's copyright agreement, authors retain copyright in their work while granting the journal the necessary rights to publish, distribute, preserve, and make the article publicly accessible.

Authors do not transfer ownership of their intellectual property to the journal solely as a condition of publication unless a separate agreement explicitly provides otherwise.

The journal's copyright policy is designed to support both the integrity of the scholarly record and the broad dissemination of academic research.

6. Open Access and Publication Charges

Open access does not imply that authors must pay a fee merely to have their work considered for publication.

Any Article Processing Charge (APC), submission fee, publication fee, or other applicable charge will be clearly disclosed on the journal's website before manuscript submission.

Editorial decisions are made independently of an author's ability or willingness to pay publication charges.

Payment of an APC, where applicable, does not guarantee acceptance or publication.

If the journal operates without APCs, this will be explicitly stated in the journal's Article Processing Charge Policy.

7. No Subscription Requirement

The journal does not require readers, libraries, or institutions to purchase a subscription to access published articles.

All published scholarly content is freely available through the journal's official online platform.

8. Open Access and Peer Review

The journal's open access model does not affect the independence or rigor of the peer review process.

All manuscripts are evaluated according to the journal's editorial and peer review policies regardless of:

Author nationality;
Institutional affiliation;
Funding status;
Ability to pay publication charges;
Geographic location; or
Academic status.

Open access publication and editorial decision-making are maintained as separate processes.

9. Open Access and Research Integrity

Open access content remains subject to the journal's standards concerning:

Publication ethics;
Plagiarism prevention;
Authorship;
Research integrity;
Conflicts of interest;
Peer review;
Corrections;
Retractions; and
Protection of the scholarly record.

Making an article openly accessible does not diminish the journal's responsibility to maintain the integrity and reliability of published research.

10. Third-Party Material

Authors are responsible for ensuring that any third-party material included in their manuscripts is appropriately attributed and, where necessary, used with permission.

Third-party material may not automatically be covered by the Creative Commons license applied to the article.

Where material is excluded from the article's license, the published article should identify the relevant copyright or licensing restrictions.

Users intending to reuse third-party material are responsible for determining whether additional permission is required.

11. Repository and Scholarly Sharing

The journal supports responsible scholarly dissemination and permits authors to share their published articles through appropriate academic and institutional channels in accordance with the applicable license.

Authors are encouraged to deposit or share their published work through:

Institutional repositories;
National or subject repositories;
University research portals;
Personal academic websites; and
Recognized scholarly communication platforms.

The journal may also participate in appropriate digital preservation and indexing services to improve the discoverability and long-term accessibility of published content.

12. Digital Preservation

The journal recognizes that open access requires long-term preservation of scholarly content.

The journal therefore seeks to maintain appropriate digital preservation and archiving arrangements to ensure that published articles remain accessible even in the event of changes to the journal's website, publishing platform, or institutional infrastructure.

13. Accessibility and Discoverability

The journal seeks to maximize the accessibility and discoverability of its published content through appropriate scholarly communication and indexing practices.

Where eligible and technically available, published articles may be disseminated through:

Institutional repositories;
Persistent identifier systems;
Library discovery services; and
Other recognized scholarly communication infrastructures.

Open access is intended not only to remove financial barriers to reading but also to facilitate the responsible dissemination and reuse of scholarly knowledge.

14. Long-Term Availability

The journal is committed to maintaining continued access to published content.

If the journal ceases publication, the publisher and Editorial Board will seek appropriate arrangements to preserve the published scholarly record and maintain access to previously published articles.

Authors' rights and applicable licenses remain subject to the terms under which the articles were originally published.

15. Open Access and Special Issues

The journal's open access policy applies equally to:

Regular issues;
Special Issues;
Conference-based Special Issues;
Invited articles;
Review articles; and
Other scholarly content published under the journal's publication program.

Special Issue articles are subject to the same access, licensing, copyright, and publication ethics principles as articles published in regular issues.

16. Transparency of Open Access Model

The journal clearly communicates its open access model to authors, readers, reviewers, libraries, and other stakeholders.
