Religious schools, both Islamic madrasahs and Christian schools, play an important role in Indonesia’s educational landscape, particularly in marginalized communities. This paper explores the role of faith-based education in promoting social justice, focusing on how religious schools contribute to social equity, empowerment, and development. The study examines the educational curricula of madrasahs and Christian schools, emphasizing their approach to moral and ethical education, social responsibility, and community development. The paper investigates how these institutions promote social justice through educational opportunities, especially for marginalized groups such as rural populations, ethnic minorities, and economically disadvantaged communities. By offering an alternative to the secular education system, faith-based schools are able to integrate values such as justice, compassion, and equality, fostering a sense of responsibility among students to address societal issues. The paper also analyzes the role of religious schools in gender justice, particularly the education of girls and women, and how they contribute to breaking the cycle of poverty through knowledge and skill development. The research highlights challenges such as funding, access to quality resources, and religious intolerance, but it concludes by demonstrating the potential of faith-based education to promote long-term social justice in Indonesia’s pluralistic society.
